Drug Addiction
People take drugs and alcohol because it makes them feel better. Nobody
will buy a drug twice that makes them feel worse! When we find a substance
that makes us 'feel good' and we discover we can count on that feeling
every time we take it, the addict feels he has found a 'secret ally.'
Simply put, he puts on a 'chemical suit of armor' that consistently protects
his feelings, and smothers him with temporary euphoria. Drug
addiction dictates: He needs no human, no personal success, no development
to nurture his psych; he has a chemical that 'nurtures' him, and does
it all!
And, of course, while the drug 'holds him up' his personality, begins
to atrophy. Muscles need exercise to stay healthy. The brain needs problems
to work to stay sharp, emotions need 'taxing' to mature; but the addict
or alcoholic lives in a 'padded cocoon' and his personality and sprit
begins to regress over a period of time. The more time spent in drug addiction,
the more inadequacies a personality suffers, and soon the addict is using
drugs to also cover up this new source of inner pain. Thus, addiction
always gets worse, never better.
Drug addiction creates problems. Life is difficult, by itself. All humans
'take it on the chin' from time to time. That is our challenge; those
low moments, fearful times, our inborn insecurities and inadequacies are
placed in our way when we travel up the rising road of personal accomplishment
and character building. The more we 'face' and succeed, the better and
more confident we are that we can handle the next challenge. Our life's
lessons come from mistakes, failures, shortcomings, just as well as accomplishment,
success and the skills we develop handling ourselves in day to day living.
When you really examine it, a successful life comes from practicing 'getting
better;' whether it be career, relationships, social contacts, and even
recreation.
Drug Treatment
Practicing getting better. From drug addiction to drug treatment. The
addicted crash soon or later. Chemical props last only so long. When they
give out, we have a person who is not 'strong' enough to carry himself
and shoulder responsibility. Drug treatment is communicating that to those
who put their trust in a drug and now cannot rely on it any longer. "You
need to grow" is the message of recovery. Put down the drugs, gather your
resolve and start facing all the issues chemicals allowed you to avoid.
drug and alcohol treatment is a character building, spirit mending 'compass'
that points back up—where and what you need to confront in yourself,
test and practice strengthening your 'weak links.' A consistent effort
to practice self-improvement guarantees sobriety. Not quitting on oneself
is the key. Support from others is essential. Addicts or alcoholics need
that support—if they could get 'well' on their own, drug addiction
and alcohol would not exist. One on one counseling, peer groups, the society
of a treatment center, all, exist to educate, challenge, and rebuild the
individual who has put drugs aside and looks for something better. We'll
take you on the road from drug addiction to a successful drug treatment.
